The horizontal bar chart shows the number of pet owners from 6 English speaking countries over a 9 year period, 1990 – 98.
Ireland has the least amount of pet owners rarely breaching 100 000, whereas Scotland has over 150 000. The total number varies consistently reaching a peak of around 900 000 in 1994 then dropping to its lowest the following year, at roughly 780 000. Canada is probably the most consistent while the US is undoubtedly the most erratic.
The three years from 1990 to 1992 saw consistent growth, after this period the total amount of pet owners fluctuated every single year. The starting figures in 1990 are roughly the same as the final figures in 1998, except the US where total numbers increased by over 50% from 120 000 to 190 000.
Overall the total amount of pet owners changed consistently, mainly due to continual variance of American pet owners.
