What are the benefits of learning English step by step?

1. Increased Vocabulary and Word Recognition

Learning English step by step can help increase vocabulary and word recognition. One of the best ways to do this is through dynamic repetition.

This means taking a word and using it in new ways, such as by trying to use it in different sentences through writing or speaking. Make it true for you.

For example, if you learned the phrase, ‘no matter what’, you might say, ‘I am determined to improve my English, no matter what’ so that it is easier to remember.

2. Improved Listening and Speaking Skills

Learning English step by step can significantly improve your listening and speaking skills. First, focus on developing your listening skills by listening to English news reports, radio, and television.

You can also watch TV shows or Youtube and pause each new word or phrase to learn more about them. Repeat new words and expressions, and record yourself speaking to check your listening skills.

The important thing is to focus on videos and stories that you are interested in – that way, you will stay motivated and learn faster.

3. Improved Grammar Knowledge

By having a solid understanding of basic grammar rules, such as English tenses, parts of speech, clauses, and phrases, learners can structure their sentences in a proper manner.

This allows them to communicate their ideas clearly and effectively. Furthermore, having a good grasp of grammar can benefit English learners in various ways, such as:

  1. Improving writing skills: Proper grammar usage can significantly enhance writing skills, making written work more coherent, organized, and professional.
  2. Boosting speaking confidence: Knowing (some of!) the rules of grammar can give learners the confidence to communicate their thoughts and ideas without fear of making mistakes.
  3. Passing international exams such as IELTS: For those taking English exams, studying grammar can help them get better scores.

4. Improved Concentration and Focus

Learning English step by step can improve concentration and focus as it allows learners to build a strong foundation gradually. By reviewing and practicing the language daily, learners can reinforce their knowledge and retain information better.

Additionally, by setting clear goals and focusing on specific areas of the language, learners can direct their attention and efforts towards achieving their objectives, leading to better overall performance in learning English.

5. Ability to Understand Complex Texts and Conversations

Learning English step by step can significantly enhance your ability to understand complex texts and conversations. To progress effectively, you need to understand 70-90% of the content.

You should expose yourself to audio and videos that come with subtitles or printed text to help you understand the context. For example, Beelinguapp is a great app that provides side-by-side translations of texts in your language and English, making reading in English more convenient.

Additionally, watching English movies or TV shows with English subtitles can help you develop your listening skills and improve your understanding of complex sentences. There are lots of examples to help you on the IELTS Podcast.

6. Increased Self-Confidence and Self-Esteem

We know it sounds obvious, but the more you progress, the more confident you will feel. By setting goals, making an English study plan, and practising as much as possible, learners can improve their language skills and feel more confident when speaking English.

Daily practice is important, and learners can use a variety of resources to immerse themselves in the language. Speaking to yourself in English can also be helpful in identifying areas that need improvement and developing fluency.

Surrounding oneself with positive, supportive people who can speak English can also increase your confidence and motivation – even if they are people on Youtube!

Remember to stay motivated and never give up, as the journey to learning English may have its challenges but the rewards are worth it. Keep practising, remain positive, and believe in yourself!

What is the fastest way to learn English step by step?

Step 1: Set a (SMART) goal

Setting a goal is important when learning English because it provides learners with a clear aim to work towards, keeps them motivated, and helps them track their progress. Goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely.

Some examples of goals that learners can set include

  • reaching a certain score on a language proficiency test
  • being able to understand a favourite English show without subtitles
  • being able to hold a conversation with an English-speaking friend.

To measure progress towards achieving these goals, learners can take online level tests, track the number of new vocabulary words they learn each day, or monitor their ability to understand and communicate in English during conversations.

Step 2: Create a study schedule

Creating a study schedule is crucial for anyone who wants to learn English effectively.

Once you have your goals, make a study plan that focuses on the four main English skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Allocate time for each skill and make sure to include a variety of activities to keep your studies interesting.

Do you study better in the morning, or the evening? Maybe you have a block of time at the weekend? Do what works for you, and be consistent.

Consistency is key, so make a habit of studying at the same time every day or week. This will help you remember when to study and make it easier to plan the rest of your schedule around your English learning.

Step 3: Decide which tools you’ll use

Learning a new language can be daunting, but there are many tools available to help you become proficient in English quickly – including the IELTS Podcast! Here are some other effective resources you can use to improve your English language skills:

  • One-on-One Tutor: Individual tutoring is a fast and effective way to learn English. With one-on-one tutoring, you’ll meet with a tutor (either in-person or online), discuss what you want to learn and where you want to improve and work through tailored lessons together.
  • Language Classes: In a language class, you’ll meet regularly with a teacher and a group of fellow students. Each class, the teacher will lead you through a lesson plan.
  • Online Programs: Online programs such as Rosetta Stone or Duolingo provide structure and lesson plans to follow, making them a convenient and cost-effective option. You can study whenever you want, and some programs are even free.
  • Textbooks: A textbook can be an excellent tool to improve your English skills. The best ones will teach you many different skills and make the learning interactive by having regular exercises and quizzes.
  • Language Exchange Programs: Language exchange programs allow you to practice your English skills with a native speaker while also helping them learn your native language. This method is beneficial because it provides the opportunity to practice speaking and listening skills in a real-life context.

In conclusion, there are many tools available to aid in learning English quickly. Each tool has its own benefits and drawbacks, so it’s essential to choose the ones that work best for you and your learning style.

Step 4: Start studying!

To start studying English effectively, it’s important to have a study plan and set achievable goals. First, create a study schedule that includes time for practising each of the four main English skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

Make sure to plan out each study session in detail to help you stay on track. Utilize resources such as language exchange programs and online courses to supplement your learning. Set specific, measurable goals for each study session and track your progress. Don’t be afraid to make changes to your study plan or resources if you feel you aren’t making the progress you want to be.

Remember to keep your studying interesting and efficient by incorporating activities you enjoy, such as reading English books or attending English-speaking clubs. Most importantly, don’t give up! Consistency is key, and with dedication and hard work, you can achieve your English learning goals. Happy studying!

Step 5: Try flashcards and notes to boost your vocabulary

Flashcards are a great tool to improve your English vocabulary. You can create physical or digital flashcards. For physical flashcards, use index cards and write the English word on one side and the word in your language on the other. For digital flashcards, download an app like Anki or Quizlet.

We recommend learning phrases rather than just words, so that you are putting together accurate sentences.

For example, if you are learning phrases related to time, you could write:

  • Just in time
  • About time
  • In the nick of time
  • I need more downtime

Flashcards are a quick and easy way to learn new words but remember to also practice using them in conversation and reading. So, grab some index cards or download an app and start improving your English vocabulary today!

Note-taking is crucial for retaining information. Whether it’s through paper and pen or technology like your phone, having something to take notes on will help you remember words and make the best use of your time.

Step 6: Make it fun

To achieve this, you can connect English to things you already like doing or interests you have. For instance, if you love cars, you can get English-language car magazines and read through them. If you are into sports, you can find matches with English-speaking announcers and watch them on TV.

You can also learn the lyrics of your favourite English songs, join an English-language online group for a hobby you love, or talk about your favourite TV show in English with a friend. Remember that making learning fun can motivate you to keep learning even when things get a bit boring or frustrating.

Step 7 : Listen to native English speakers

Listening to native English speakers speaking is a crucial step in learning English. It helps with language acquisition by improving your listening and comprehension skills, as well as your pronunciation and intonation.

Immersing yourself in English language media such as movies, TV shows, and music can expose you to different accents and dialects, helping you understand English in various contexts.

It can also help you learn new vocabulary and slang that may not be found in textbooks. Remember, don’t be afraid to make mistakes and keep practising your speaking skills to become more confident in your English abilities.

How often should you practice speaking English if you want to learn this language step by step?

To become a master of the English language, you need to practice speaking every day. Start with 20-30 minutes of practice and gradually increase the time as you progress.

Book an English class or find a tutor to have regular conversations with a fluent speaker. Studies show that speaking practice is the most effective way to learn a language.
